Statue of Unity is built as a memorial of ‘Iron man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel . The construction Statue of Unity has been completed after four years of work. Foundation of Statue of Unity is laid by Government of India. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurates the statue at Kevadia in Narmada district of Gujarat on October 31, the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Cost and Height:
Statue of Unity built at a cost of 30 billion INR(40 million $). It will be the tallest state of the world of height 182m. That leads Gujarat to a new tourism hub position.
Larsen and Toubro [L&T]built the Statue of Unity. The chest of the statue is totally empty and decorated as a library which must accommodate up to 200 visitors at a time.
The observation deck, situated at a height of around 500 ft from the river bed. Access to the Statue via a 5 km boat ride. It will provide visitors a panoramic view, enabling them to see the beautiful Satpura and Vindhyanchal mountain ranges. The 212 km long Sardar Sarovar Reservoir, and the 12 km long Garudeshwar Reservoir.
For the comfort of the visitors against high wind forces, a 400-ton Tuned Mass Damper system has been provided above the observation deck.
This statue has been located on a river island called ‘Sadhu Bet’. Statue of Unity is 3.5 km away from Narmada dam. There is another important construction, that is a 250 m long bridge that provides s connectivity to the island. Statue provides a selfie point for those who want to click photos here.
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s life inspires the basic design of Statue. Statue seems to be wearing characteristic garments and stand in a walking stance. Which is the naturalistic and historically accurate representation of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
Here Visitors experience the fast elevators which save their precious time. Also, Statue has three-level base exhibit floor, mezzanine and roof – will contain a Memorial Garden and a large continuous museum which summarise comprising exhibits that focus on the life and contributions of Vallabhbhai Patel.

Main components used in the construction of the Statue of unity are:-
- Scale steel framing
- reinforced cement concrete
The statue needed 75000 cubic meters of concrete, 5700 metric tonne steel structure. Also it needs 18500 tonnes reinforced steel rods, 22500-tonne bronze sheets for construction.
The statue will have a viewing gallery at the height of 193 meters from sea level, which can accommodate up to 200 visitors at a time. Statue of Unity is twice as America’s Statue of Liberty and also large than China’s Spring Temple Buddha(tallest statue now). Hence it becomes the world’s tallest statue after the inauguration.
Men Power used /Citicism/inauguration:
3400 laborers and 250 engineers work for 56 months to complete the construction. But many people of India start criticizing the construction. Because of the Bronze panel used in construction actually made in China. Hundreds of Chinese workers were also spotted at the construction site. Beyond all other aspects, it is going to be a world-leading statue. Also, it provides a great tourism spot to Gujarat(INDIA).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will inaugurate the Sardar Patel statue on 31 October, was the one to have laid the foundation stone for the project on 31 October 2013.
